Sunshine Walk 2026

I'm walking to support local families impacted by cancer

I’m fundraising to support the Sunshine Trust because everyone in regional areas deserves the very best treatment and care, just like those in major cities. 

This is not a donation to just  AWH, its a donation to support services for all patients in the district, regardless of where  they are receiving treatment. 

Importantly this donation will support local cancer research, training for staff , patient support and equipment that governments don't fund.

Every dollar I raise will stay within our community to help local people impacted by cancer.

This year is even more important for me

Of course I could never imagine this time last year that I would have another personal experience of cancer. Helen was diagnosed with early breast cancer and has undergone surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy and has recently come out the other side and is doing well. The services we have locally - she had excellent care when she had chemotherapy at the new facility at AWPH, radiotherapy with  Genesis  Care in the cancer centre and tremendous support from the McGrath breast cancer nurses- are something we should be proud of.  I know first hand the important contributions from the Sunshine Trust for the support services, equipment, staff training and research that underpins the excellent services we have locally.  Most of these services would not exist if we relied on government funding.

My father and my mother in law who have both died of cancer also received components of their care locally .

We all have experience of friends and family with cancer. We don't know who is next and its important that we support the local services .

This year I'll be walking with a heavy heart but happy to know that as a community we can rely on a great cancer team and a great charity that has our backs!
