The why for AWCC!
This year the Albury Wodonga Cycling Club is proud to be involved in the Sunshine Ride, a major fundraiser for the Albury Wodonga Cancer Centre . The event is a 24 hour continuous ride, completed in teams or individually, supported by businesses, sporting clubs or individuals, highlighting the need to provide a cancer centre for people in this region. This point was brought home to the cycling community this year, with the loss of one of the club's members, Chris Little, who sadly lost his battle to cancer. Chris was a valued, much respected club member being part of the committee for a long period of time, an enthusiastic rider and a keen advocate for junior development. During his battle with cancer, Chris utilised the services of the cancer centre which highlights to our members the importance of a local service. So in respect for Chris, we ask all our members to be involved and commit to one hour in our team 24 hour ride. The Albury Wodonga Cycling Club will utilise stationary bikes at Comet Cycles commencing March 15 at 6pm through the night till 6pm March 16. It's a simple gesture to thank the wonderful staff and administrators of this fine facility whilst also honoring Chris for his dedicated time and commitment to our club.We're proud to be riding for local people impacted by cancer!
Our team is taking part in the Sunshine Ride on March 15, 2024 and will be riding for 24 hours on an exercise bike for local people impacted by cancer.
The pain and fatigue we'll feel after riding a bike for 24 hours gives us just a small snapshot of what patients and their families might go through on their cancer journey.
Whatever money we can raise to help ease that journey will be well worth it.
All money raised through the Sunshine Ride stays in our region to fund new facilities, services and research at the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre.
This means that more people in our community can access the cancer treatment and support they need, close to their home, and their family and friends.
